Back in June of 2020, I purchased the Greenes 4 ft. wide by 8 ft. long by 10.5 inches high Cedar raised garden bed since I’ve wanted to start growing my own produce. Since I knew it was late into the growing season, I decided to get it assembled and ready to go for next year’s growing season.

Why I selected Cedar Wood for a Raised Garden Bed
The reason I decided to go with a durable wood frame instead of metal or glavinized steel for my raised bed because wood is less likely to "heat up" in direct sunlight like the other materials that could affect the garden plants inside.
And I chose Greenes cedar bed for the advantage cedar wood offers over other type wood. Cedar is naturally rot and insect resistant, chemically free (vs pressure treated lumber), and safe to use for growing fruits and vegetable. It can also be used as a terrace garden with flowers and small flowering bushes
Arrived in good shape and record time
The raised garden bed arrived in record time. Everything shipped in good shape and all pre-cut pieces were there [21 cedar boards, 6 cedar corner posts, 6 decorative tops (6 screws for tops), and instructions]. Each 11/16" thick board was grooved at each end to slip into each grooved post.
Location and Assembly
I picked out a suitable location in my backyard. I then placed the kit near the spot where I wanted to set it up. The only tools I needed was a tape measure, screwdriver and rubber mallet.
I first laid out the boards and posts to expedite the assembly. I even matched boards so that the finished frame would look good. Each board easily slipped into the grooved posts and assembly went quickly just as advertized. I only had to use the rubber mallet sparingly since the boards fit well into the grooves for each post. I then attached the decorative tops to each post by simply using a screwdriver.
The end result was a retangularly shaped raised bed with two 4-by-4 foot sections. With each post having grooves on all 4 sides, makes it easy to add to the bed in any 90% direction.
Adding Material to fill the Bed
I then went out a purchase bags of soil especially made for raised beds to fill in each section. However, I mis-calculated and only had enough to fill-up one section. Instead, I spread out the soil in both sections, and ended up dumping shredded up leaves from my yard in late autumn.
The following spring to my chagrin, both the soil and leaves had reduced down well below the half way height of the bed. To fill the bed with soil was out of the question since prices for the soil had doubled. I ended up using the bed as a compose bin, dumping cut grass, leaves and yard debris during the summer and autumn months.
Since Then
As I finally publish this review in July of 2025, the rasied garden bed still stands firm, although faded, and it continues to be used as a compose bin until the time when it is finally filled-up and ready to be used as a garden, the way I originally intended to use it.
Because of its longevity and structure remaining intact, I recommend Greenes Cedar Raised Garden Bed for it's durability, ease to assemble, and aesthetic looks. Now maybe I can start growing a real garden sometime soon.
